Take the good with the bad
Absolutely the best beer bar in town, maybe in new england. Unreal selection of imports, a commitment to proper beer service and knowledgeable staff. I love their pub food, cheese plates and appetizers but was unimpressed the one time we ordered entrees. Service can be slow but i feel that is not completely unintentional, it's in line with the European dining experience they seem to be trying to replicate...come in, sit down with good food and drink and enjoy your groups company. Wait for a table can be rough but there is obviously a reason, so check it out and bring your thirst.

Great Beer Don't go on Saturday Evening
We love the Publick House. Best Belgian Beer in town and around. Food is good, Beer is better. Saturday evenings are for the kids.

Not an Irish Pub
I visited Boston over the summer with some friends from Brussels and had a wonderful experience. I did have a problem with the service however, as it was quite slow. However the food was great (done in the proper traditional Belgian style) and the beer amazing, which is really what Publick House is all about. They have the best selection of trappist beers in the U.S. that I have seen. If it weren't for the line outside it would have been terribly overcrowded inside so I understand why they have implemented that system. Overall a great experience and a great place to relax and throw some back after work.

Don't miss it!
I hope you all disregard the critical review saying to "skip it." This place should not be looked over and has a fantastic array of beers from all over, not to mention quality pub food. Sure, you're paying a little more for a drink, but it's all imported and presented in appropriate drink ware; the food is reasonably priced. This person's "bad" experience was due to a trivia night conflict and a two hour wait to get in - surely it must be a bad place if it has a two hour wait!! If you're in Boston and want high quality beer and atmosphere, the Publick House is essential. Any "loyal customer" to the Publick House wouldn't let a minor incident with a trivia night get in the way of their exceptional drink menu and quality service.

Not worth the wait - Skip it.
Never in my life have I walked out of a restaurant without leaving a tip. Until tonight. As a direct result of this evening's events at The Publick House in Brookline, my party of five walked out having paid five cents above our $128.05 bill, simply because none of us had anything smaller than a dime. I was with four friends this evening, and we thought we would check out The Publick House's trivia night tonight, as we enjoy trivia nights and, up until now, also enjoyed The Publick House. Trivia began between 8:15 and 8:30. After the first question, we were informed by our server that since there was a long wait, they needed the table, as we were finished with dinner. Our table had been cleared just about five or ten minutes prior, and we still had beer in our glasses. Never did they ask if we wanted dessert, after dinner drinks, coffee, more beer - nothing. Basically, we were handed the bill and recommended that if we wished to stay for trivia and keep drinking, we could do so at the bar. Up until this point, it was a pleasant evening. Everyone was happy, polite, and undemanding. We all agreed that this just wasn't right, and I went to speak with the host, who promptly dispatched me to manager. I explained to the manager where we were sitting, when we arrived, what we had been consuming and that we planned to continue consuming. He reaffirmed that if we wished to stay, we could do so at the bar because of their two hour wait. We did not wish to stay. We paid and walked out. While I understand that turning tables is not only the recipe to clearing a two hour wait list, but also adding revenue for the evening, I feel that their decision was quite short-sighted by displacing customers that had spent over $30 at the bar, almost $130 (up until that point) at the table, and an undetermined amount of additional after-dinner drinking revenue, not to mention the now sacrificed good will inherent with keeping loyal customers happy.

Go for the beer, tolerate the service
The selection of beers here is worth driving across the state for, and the owners know it -- they seem to love their beer more than their customers. Because of this, they impose patron-unfriendly seating policies (they won't seat you if your whole party isn't there yet - even if there are plenty of empty tables, and if the place is full, instead of taking your name and letting you sit at the bar they'll make you stand in line) and the waitstaff are often downright rude. The food is pretty good but sometimes not worth the prices. This used to be an unpretentious and cozy Irish pub with great food called Anam Cara - the transformation into a destination for beer snobs is unfortunate for those who liked the friendly and welcoming atmosphere and comfort food on the menu.

Terrible
The worst mussels I have ever eaten--sour and bitter. The calimari was good though. Lots of beer but very expensive and crowded with dimwit college girls and a few puffy frat boys. What a fun evening--and a hell of a bill. Oh yeah--fakie Irish kit-bar. Ick.
