I am from new york originally and am extremely picky about my chinese food (a chinese woman was my nanny and practically raised me, we ate chinese every night). I also studied abroad in Hong Kong. In short, this restaurant beat out every one I've been to in Boston Chinatown. Its cheap. The service is excellent. Thank god for this place.

Everything I have had there so far is great! Especially the fried chicken they have!

Wife and I always order out here when we re both tired and want something yummy and cheap! Get the homestyle tofu!

The Shanghai Gate restaurant is one of the last remaining authentic Chinese restaurants left in Boston. While the dishes may be on the "smaller size", the quality is consistent, the service is above average, and the food is out of the wok and on your table within a few minutes. The prices won't break your pocketbook. With this exception, Boston Chinese restaurants now lag far behind New York and San Francisco.

Amazing lunch specials! Many choices, all include rice and either crab rangoon or chicken wing appetizers . . . all of this for under $6.00!!

some of the best food i've had in boston in the last 2 years. absolutely fantastic taste and very fair prices, but portions were a little smaller than at other places. i wish they gave us a little more. the place was small, cozy, and well-decorated for a little place. little touches like fancy square plates made the atmosphere better.

amazing food at a lot price. we got the soup dumplings, beer entree and a noodle with chicken entree for 21 bucks, with service! great food with great price. go there to save a buck, get filled up, and enjoy the taste
