My husband and I went for dinner on a Saturday night so I expected the usual business/delays. The service turned out to be exceptional as was the food and wine list. The petite filet is more than enough with a couple good sides. I'd recommend the creamed spinach. Shoestring fries are very good but get cold quickly... All together a lovely experience.

I've never been a huge steak-chain fan, but Ruth's in the Old City Hall has won me over. Great servie in the bar (unless it's happy hour), and nice quiet dining rooms with soaring ceilings and very classy decor. The menu is a bit pricey, but that is to be expected in aa high-end chain. The location is convenient for after-wook Financial District types, and the choice of setting in the Old City Hall is really unexpected but works out well. If you eat in the bar, ask for the bar menu in addition to the dinner menu. The service staff is solid, but speed can be a little hit-or-miss. The place always seems either packed or empty, no middle-of-the-road. Surprisingly for a steak place, we liked the seafood and particularly the seafood appetizers. The drinks are overprices but also seriously oversized in some cases. This is my favortie Ruth's Chris anywhere. Having said that, I still like some of the independent steak places slightly better.

I must say that everything we ordered (appetizer,salad,steak,sides,wine....) was delicous. That is why is was so unfortunate that the service was subpar. We made a reservation a month ago, I called the night before to confirm, yet when we walked in the door, they couldn't find our reservation? We waited almost an hour for our table. We FINALLY got seated and it took a waiter 10 minutes to come over. It was then revealed that they mixed up our table and we were supposed to be the Murphy's (which we aren't). We put in an order for a bottle of wine and the crab cakes for the appetizer. It took 25 minutes for our wine and the crab cakes 45 minutes (they never put the order in). Our main waiter made us feel very rushed and almost insisted that we put in our whole order right away. When we explained that we wanted to put our order in after we got our salads... he seemed put off. This was just the beginning. I could never write EVERYTHING that went wrong. I have to say that the food was AMAZING but when I am paying almost $300 for a meal for 2, I expect everything to be amazing and enjoy a nice, relaxing meal. That was not the case.
