    dissapointed

The staff were great however the food was not. Very disappointed. The food was tasteless. Sauce was tasted like it came out of a can. The roast pork was unseasoned. The chicken Parm was over cooked. The veal was taste less ! Don't waste you're time or money. So much potential. They need to hire a chef or sell the business.

    Cut above the rest

We have been eating in the North End for years now and there are many good places to eat. This one is a cut above the rest. Great food, good prices and great service. Can't say enough about this place. Been there several time and plan to go back many more times as long as they continue with great food and great service. Keep up the great work!

    Not the Best

I ordered my favorite, Salad Caprese, it looked good, but the big, red tomato slices were served ice cold. I thought all Italian Chefs knew that chilling tomatoes destroys their wonderful flavor. My daughter ordered a basil herb pasta that was very bland. I wanted to order Eggplant Parmigian, but watching my waistline, however have a feeling it is probably very good there. The tomato sauced hot dishes that other diners around us were served all looked very good, maybe we just ordered the wrong items...but still, very surprised over ice cold tomatoes. The italian bread was perfect.

    They have tripe!

I love beef tripe cooked in tomato sauce. I grew up on this delicacy and it's tough to find in restaurants. So, I was ecstatic when my daughter spotted it on the menu at Piccola Venezia. It was fabulous, just like I remember when I was a kid. Surprisingly, our waiter almost gagged when I ordered it, so he wasn't the best advertisement for this particular dish unfortunately, but I knew it would be wonderful and it was. I even had leftovers for the next day!

    Rosa's tiramisu

This was a great value for lunch with a superb meal topped off by Rosa's tiramisu. If you've been turned off by rum-soaked versions you should try Rosa's light and airy version which is served in a generous portion large enough for two. Rosa is a youthful octogenarian who commutes from East Boston each day to make salads and tiramisu for grateful customers.

    We enjoyed it!

On our last night in Boston recently, we wandered around the North End looking for a place we could afford which had the required unpretentious ambience. We didn't want white tablecloths or anything that looked overly-stuffy or polished. We were looking for a place a family would feel comfortable in, even though we are a couple traveling without children. We settled on Piccola Venezia after walking all over --- based on looking through the window and noticing a varied, affordable menu. We were there early (4:30p) on a Friday. No crowds as yet. There were several families there. I could see where the main room (not intimate in the slightest) could get loud if it was crowded. Obviously (on Hanover Street) the location is great and we enjoyed our small window table, to people-watch. Our service was attentive and friendly (all staff members) through the whole meal. We had spaghetti and an egglant and pasta dish with ricotta cheese. Both delicious. The house wine was a bit expensive (we live in California so know good wine) but, all-in-all, we enjoyed it and would consider returning when in Boston. So many choices though.
