Local Gem
While visiting Boston from NYC I took an early morning walk up Hanover St from our Harborside Inn hotel and ran into a young woman - asked if she lived there and she said yes and asked about a local place to get a nice breakfast/brunch. She recommended the North Street Grille. She was so effusive about it I checked it out and it looked charming, the menu very nice. Well, it was phenomenal - and what great value. I had the banana bourbon pecan pancakes and it was like having bananas foster for breakfast - fantastic. My companion had an omelette and it was fluffy, hot and genreously filled. What a wonderfu local experience. when traveling I WANT to go to local hangouts and NO CHAINS. Having had a great dinner at Giacomo's the night before, this just capped off our visit. GO - unless you are a real jerk about the service, you will not be disappointed. Places get busy and if you have to ask for something once in awhile, so what. Enjoy.

Excellent food, intimate setting
I have had the pleasure of eating at the North Street Grille on several occasions and each time I go, I try something new and it's absolutely delicious. It's nice that it's NOT Italian. The food is delicious and there are a lot of regulars that go in there because everyone is friendly and say "hello" and the waiter is extremely friendly and everyone seems to know him as well. Go there. You won't be sorry.

When you dont want Italian...
I think North Street is great. The dinner menu is pleasantly not Italian, which in the North End is rare. So as a local, I love that there is a delicious place that isn't too pricey that has a different menu. Also the breakfast is terrific. The breakfast menu has gotten almost too extensive, but everything that my party had was excellent, and judging by the consistent line on the weekends, I think others agree.

Won't be going back...
We heard this restaurant was good, so we went in with out of town guests on a Saturday morning. Our server (maybe she was new?) was one of the worst I've ever had. She barely checked on us, and we had to ask her multiple times for basic things, like refills on our coffee and jam for our toast. My omellete, titled "pesto" arrived with NO pesto and I had to wait at least 10 minutes for a new one. By then, everyone in my party had finished eating. No one there was personable, and the food, though decent, did not make up for the bad experience. I'd like to give it a second chance, but at that cost, it's just not worth it.

Sadly gone down hill
My friends and I used to have brunch here every weekend but our last few trips have been disappointing. During our last visit, all of our meals came out seperately and my friend's waffle was literally inedible. Too bad because the place is adorable and the staff is always so nice!
