    Not recommended

This weekend a friend and I were unfortunate enough to go to Kingfish Hall. Let me say first that we are not picky people in any way; you will never seeing us calculating a tip to the exact 18%, arguing over the market price of fish, or sending food back to the kitchen that wasn't precisely our preference. However, I do have to say that we were extremely dissatisfied with the service we experienced at Kingfish. Our problems began when we attempted to order appetizers. Our first choice, tuna tartare, we were told right away was not available. Our second choice, the tuna martini, was also unavailable. The entree I wanted, the fish tacos, also unavailable. When we tried to order a bottle of wine, that was also unavailable, but the waiter seemed to think it was ok to offer us a more expensive bottle. It wasn't until we refused it that he spoke with a manager to charge us the price of the bottle we wanted. It really seemed as if the waiter was completely clueless as to what was going on in the kitchen. I do not have experience in the restaurant industry, but it seemed very odd to me that on a Saturday at 5:30 your restaurant had virtually nothing that we tried to order. It very much bothered me that for a restaurant so expensive, I could not even get the food that I wanted to order, and I was not even advised at the start of the meal that certain options were unavailable or given any kind of explanation. Also, halfway through our entrees someone placed bread and oil on the table and walked away without saying anything. But at that point we had kind of given up on this restaurant anyway. The entire experience was confusing, frustrating, and disheartening. When there are so many options for restaurants in Boston, there is no need to waste time on a restaurant where the staff are clueless and you can only order half of what is on the menu. I hope that you have understood my concerns and improve your dining experience.

Bread Pudding for dessert = 5+ stars

Bread Pudding at Kingfish Hall, why are you sooooooo good? I'm glad I ate you (twice) during my trip. I will miss you. Sniff.

    Very disappointed!

My family of four saw the name Tod English and decided to give this restaurant a try. It is pricey but we were in a touristy area after all. What a huge disappointment! The surf and turf was tough and dry, the veggies lukewarm and overcooked. If this was a pair of jeans- I'd return them. Not fair to pay $200 for a terrible meal. Never again will I go to any restaurant with the name Todd English

    Very Good Food & Service

My Husband and I had a ten day holiday in Boston in May/June 2010. We ate at Kingfish 3 times. Every time the food and service was excellent. It's a little expensive but worth it.

You pay for the name , not the quality

My boyvriend and I took a weekend trip to Boston a few weeks back. I went on resteraunt.com and got a $25 certificate pretty cheap for Kingfish Hall so we made it a point to go there.. 1st off. the ambiance was nice.. when we opened the menu's the prices shocked us but with the certificate it couldnt be that bad right? I had the dancing fish and my BF had the Surf and Turf.. neither of us were dancing or surfing and turfing. The food was bland, portions were ok but with distaseful food portions don't matter. And to top it all off, the certificate ended up just being for gratuity after all was said and done.

    not great

Let's cut to the chase: if you're thinking of going here because it's a Todd English restaurant, stop. Kingfish Hall is not a sophisticated, upscale restaurant like Olives. KH is a glorified chain restaurant, with possibly slightly better food (and much higher prices). The GF and I split calamari and it was atrocious, deep fried, flavorless, covered in a sauce that left not a milimeter uncovered in gloop. The entrees were better (they couldn't be worse, really). The GF had a lobster special that was good, but ridiculously overpriced ($48). I had a steak and, while the steak was cooked well, it was not a terribly high quality cut of meat and was not terribly flavorful. We skipped dessert, assuming that a place that serves a third rate appetizer and second rate entrees was not going to serve first rate dessert. And as for the atmosphere, it was pure chain restaurant. No elegance, class or taste. Sculptures of fish hang from the ceiling, and, for those sitting on the second level of the restaurant, you see that the sculptures are covered in dust and filth. Ugh.

    Not really worth it

Once again, you pay for the Todd English name here. The food is good, but the prices are a little ridiculous. It won't be a bad meal at Kingfish, but it will leave a lot to be desired.
