Best Thai in Boston
I've been searching for good Thai ever since moving from N. VA (home to very excellent Thai). I've been consistently disappointed with Thai throughout the South End, Fenway, and Back Bay (almost always due to weak flavorings).....until the King and I, which has surpassed my expectations every time. Food is always fresh, very flavorful, cooked perfectly. Only problem is that I live in the South End and they don't deliver. Atmosphere is commensurate with other similar-priced restaurants, and staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Frankly, I'd die for some right now, but I'm pregnant and there's no way I'm trekking all the way out there. I'll pay someone to go get it for me. ) Favorite dishes: Basil Noodle, Pad See You, Curry Puffs (seasonal appetizer), and Matsaman Curry. Delicious!!

not worth it
the staff gave me attitude about asking about the vegetarian curry - almost everything is made with fish oil. they offered to substitute, and the dish they gave me was spicy for sure but had no actual flavor - it was overcooked and totally inedible. for fifteen freakin' dollars, i expected a lot more.

Consistently delivers
King and I is a restaurant that my friends and I always go to when we want to treat ourselves without breaking the bank. Prices are so affordable and portions are generous, so my girlfriends and I always share. I have no idea why anyone has a single problem with the King and I because all the times I've been there, I've had delicious food and friendly service.

Best Thai value so far...
...and I've been searching Boston for good affordable Thai ever since leaving that behind in Seattle. I had lunch at King and I this week, and I'm not sure that last reviewer went to the same restaurant. The dishes were quite (pleasantly) spicy at the "medium" level, and you can always ask for more. The satay appetizer was four or five sticks of nice thick chunks of chicken with a lick-the-bowl dipping sauce. I wasn't as crazy about the very standard-issue spring rolls. The mango curry was great, with huge chunks of mango rather than the garnish you get in other restaurants and lots of sweet onions and fresh peppers. And a stolen bite of my friend's Pad See Ew, a personal favorite, was saucy and flavorful. Whatever you lose in atmosphere you make up for in large, decently priced portions. Definitely worth a visit.

Thai Comfort Food
The King and I is a great place for lunch and dinner if you don't want to spend much $$ but you are hungry for some (not fancy) good food. The portions are huge and the value is high. Try the pad see you....
