    Amazing food, terrible service

First of all, the food is wonderful. Easily the best chicken marsala I've ever had and the lobster dish my friend ordered was amazing as well. Unfortunately, our old waitress was awful. She never once smiled, ordered us to sit in specific seats at the table, immediately demanded that we order despite never having been there and never again checked up on us. Afterwards she counted our payment in front of us, declared that the tip wasn't enough ($6 on a $50 meal), glared at us incredulously when we didn't give her more, and eventually stormed off. Easily the worst service I've ever had.

    Check it out

Dined a few times in 2011; heard so much about the place and the line is always so long... Waited 5 minutes after trying to enter the restaurant part but was quickly hollered at to close the door by a grandfather-like waiter - just like at home! Tight, noisy place but the food was great, the service prompt and friendly. Our party had lobster ravioli, pumpkin tortolini, veal and chicken parm - unanimous that all the food was delicious. Portion sizes good & prices were great. (Cash only) Yes they move things along quickly inside, but we like to walk to one of the bakeries after dinner anyway, so it was ok with us. Recommended!

    speed dining

I dined at Giacomo's with friends from out of town and I will never return there. The service was not good! From the moment we sat down, we were rushed by the wait staff, first in ordering our meal and then paying the tab. 5 minutes after we received the tab, the waitress announced that we would need to "take care of this now". Our plates were taken away as soon as we ate our last bite and in one case while our friend was still eating. The food was okay but the dining experience was terrible.

    Bad experience!

I really enjoy the food here. I always come back for the same dish. However, the service at the south end location is usually awful. I came for dinner, ordered the usual, and the waitress put in a wrong other. I told the waiter who was helping run the food that my order was wrong. He rolled his eyes at me and insisted that it was what I ordered; then turned and walked away. When I told my waitress about the incident, she did not make any attempt to fix my order either. For the rest of the night, the bus boy provided us service because none of the servers came back. And we had to wait for a very long time for the waitress to bring our check after I requested it from the bus boy.

    love the veal marsala

i have been going to giacomo's for at least 15 years. i go during the week or when the weather is rainy because there are no lines. i will nopt be #60 in a line that wraps around the corner. too many other good restaurants in the north end. giacomos is popular because its cheap. two peeps acan eat for 35 bucks. i like the veal marsala. i will go there again. check it out but get there 4.30 for a 5pm opening on the weekend.

    Consistently Outstanding

I lived in the North End for 15 years and have dined at Giacomo's since it opened. Although I now live west of the City, I continue to patronize this restaurant based on its consistant quality Italian cuisine. If you don't like to wait to be seated or are uncomfortable in cramped dining quarters, this place is not for you. But if you are looking for an extensive menu of Italian offerings cooked to your own specs, you will not be disappointed by Giacomo's. And if you visit often enough, you may even get priority seating.
