I went there because I read some excellent reviews but I was very disappointed. The place has fun decoration and atmosphere and the food is ok, not too expensive. But the service was not good! Our waitress mumbled things instead of saying them loudly. For example, when she asked if we wanted any drinks, only one person at my table heard her and answered, and then she left and didn't care to check with the 3 other people at the table if they wanted any drink! The 2nd refill of coffee she served me was extremely hot and I burned all the inside of my mouth (couldn't even swallow it!). So I went up to the counter to let them know and they looked surprised and didn't apologize. Would it have been so hard for her to simply apologize and make sure I was ok?? There are some other good brunch places in the area. They will just expect you to be satisfied and shut your mouth just because they have had good reviews for many years! Rude!

Whenever I can get to Boston to see my son dance in the ballet, I take the earliest flight out of North Carolina. That way I can wake him up and he'll meet me at south end station. We stroll down to Charley's for Breakfast. He's young enough to make it through the turkey hash, while I get Blue Berry pancakes. Couple of glasses of milk, bacon and then just nap until curtain. Charley's can't be beat.

I was shown this restaurant by a friend the food and service was brilliant but the restaurant made me feel like I was at home having breakfast with my family. I work for an airline and I stop over quite a lot and I always use Charlie's sandwich shoppe hopefully I will take more flight attendants for a really good experience of food and service

The best in Boston, and that's no lie. I've been going here for almost 30 years and the quality or portions haven't changed just the prices. they have been around for almost 90 years, and there is a reason they are still in business today, great food, great people, and i can't get over the size of the breakfast.

I have eaten breakfast here for several years and I love this place. Great pancakes, eggs, etc. Frankly, I am not wild about the turkey hash, but I love everything else about the place. Super-fast service and extremely friendly. I always love to sit at the counter and watch the cooks at the grill and the waiters and waitress mange the tight quarters. Charlies is a truly authentic diner, just like thousands which used to exist all over the USA in the 1940's, 50's and 60's, long before fast food took over. Personalized service, authentic charm, nothing pre-packaged. A real Boston gem!
