    loved casa romero

very cozy feel with beautiful tiles. the "perfect margaritas" was in fact delicious. the pollo cilantro, carne asada and pollo fajitas were all very good. we loved the meal and will return.

You have to know what to order!

This place hasn't been around for 37 years for no reason! The reviewers have been ordering chicken and chocolate cake!!! What do you expect? Yes, the house margherita is fine. Try the posole for soup. Fantastic! The ceviche for a starter is one of the best I've had in the States. The idea that I can get huitaloche (sp?) in Boston is amazing. This corn mold mushroom has an extraordinary flavour. I appreciate the fact that the maestro is often present taking phone calls for reservations. One of a kind character and a treasure of a restaurant.

Nice place, shame about the mains

The staff were so friendly and accommodating, even when they were overloaded with customers. Sometimes things took a specklonger than ideal, but it wasn't due to slow servers (more likely not enough staff). The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, with the deep vibrant hues of real Talavera tile, and a mix of gringos and spanish-speaking patrons. The simple Tarasco soup was wonderful and worth every penny. The chocolate cake was quite nice too. Even the house specialty margarita was properly mixed and very refreshing. Sadly, the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were generically bland store bought, and not even from a Latin American brand - pass on those to keep the good flavours going. The biggest disappointment was my meal: I ordered the mole & nopales chicken medallions, and it tasted like someone poured a jar of 'Diana's ready-mole' onto some ultra-rubbery chicken breast (that I presume had been alternately steamed and microwaved about 6 times, judging by the texture). The poultry actually had zero flavour. The side vegetables were some kind of Costco variety mix, and kind of freezer burned (how's that possible in a restaurant?). The coffee wasn't brewed - it wasn't even 'distillado' - it was instant from crystals. At least it was hot. However, the pork looked possibly worthy of a try, and it would be a great place to go for a cosy late night bite (like only a soup and a dessert, skip the coffee!). I feel bad writing these negatives when the staff was so nice, and some of the food was authentic and legitimate, but some was a cheap rip off. At its price point, this restaurant will only continue to survive if the rest of Boston's Mexican restaurants manage to stay even worse.

    A local favorite

The unusual entrance (through an alley) makes it feel like you're entering a well-kept secret hideaway. The traditional Mexican entrees are good, but what's really special is one of their flagship dishes: the orange-marinated pork loin cooked in a spicy chipotle sauce. Pork is not something I feel like having in a restaurant and pork in an orange marinade does not sound appealing, however TRY IT! This has become one of my favorite food fantasies. The pork is extremely tender with the right amount of tanginess and the right amount of spice. This restaurant is worth trying - definitely secure a reservation and order that wonderful pork dish!

    Worth a try

I saw this place on Rachael Ray's show and expected great things... I ordered the enchiladas with green chile sauce; the tortillas were the generic, grainy, store-bought brand, and I was not impressed with the bland chile sauce. Friend 1 got the fajitas, which were very good, unique flavor, and good sized portion. Friend 2 got the chicken with mole sauce and nopalitos, which was delicious (which I'd ordered it!). Friend 3 got the fish, which was ok, though a little strongly flavored for the delicate fish. She did not enjoy it however. The flan that was ordered for dessert was grainy, and bland, but the chocolate cake was amazing. We also had their sangria, which was average, nothing new. Overall, this place was not nearly impressive enough considering the pricetag. They also have a minimum charge per person, though they didn't attempt to enforce it while we were there, and they charge for extra "complimentary" chips and salsa (though the chips and salsa were very good). If I'm paying 22+ for one dish, I expect quality, and it just wasn't consistently there. Environment was cute and compact. Very date-worthy. Worth trying, but you can get better.

Very cute place with really good and authentic mexican food. Highly recommended, but do recommend to make reservations.
