A successful day at Suffolk Downs

I had a successful day at the racetrack and decided to treat myself with dining out. I stopped at Bertucci's in Kenmore Square and had a wonderful calzone. The service was wonderful and the food was great. In fact I took most of my winnings home!

    Bertucci's Fenway

I've been to many different Bertucci's but this one particulary, now that I am a college student. The food is delicious. I'm a vegetarian, so I can't really comment on the meat but my friends have always thoroughy enjoyed there meals I've ordered the normal pizza and the margaritta pizza... the margaritta is AMAZING, and highly reccomended. The cheese is better than the regular kind. The pasta is not quite as good, but I wouldn't by any means call it subpar. Save room for dessert, I reccomend the chocolate bomba (chocolate and vanilla gelatto covered in a dark choc. shell with cherries and hazelnut...) The service and atmosphere at this Bertucci's isn't as good as some (it is more casual, sports TV's on by the bar, waiters wear Sox tee-shirts...) and service can be slow depending on when you go. But yeah, great value, great food!

    Stay away from the pasta!

I went to this restaurant for lunch recently (late August) with two co-workers. We made a reservation for 1pm. When we arrived, we were escorted through the largely empty restaurant to a table in the back located between the kitchen entrance and the restrooms. When we asked to be moved, they said that most of the empty tables were dirty (no plans to clean them, I guess). The best they could do was move us to a table that was only *close* to the kitchen and restrooms. Trying to ignore all this, we ordered drinks and then waited--and waited--for someone to take our food order. My companions ordered pizza, but I ordered a pasta dish--rigatoni with broccoli and chicken. My companions were happy with their pizzas, but my pasta dish was was subpar. The pasta was undercooked (yes I know about "al dente", but this took a lot of chewing) and the broccoli was overcooked. On the plus side, the chicken was OK. One of my companions commented that I should have known better than to order pasta in a pizzeria. Well sure, but the big, glitzy menu and the pictures in the window would lead you to believe that this is a real restaurant. Don't believe it. Stay away from the pasta. And if you want good service, the place is not recommended altogether.
