great!
Get the 20" sub, don't be afraid to add different toppings, it all tastes good. Plus the calzones, the best deal in Boston. If you can find a bigger and better calzone or sub for such a cheap price you let me know. Try this spot, you won't regret it.

Best Value Downtown
I stumbled across Al Capone when I forgot to bring my lunch into work and I wasn't disappointed. In contrast to a lot of the more hip lunch spots, you can actually identify and will fill your belly here without emptying your wallet. The two varieties of pizza, their regular and the Sicilian Deep dish are both very tasty and given out in large portions (1/3 a pizza is a slice here). The ingredients are largely the same for both, but the differing crusts are a good way to change it up. The subs are the main attraction here with foods that while not top shelf, are still very good. To contrast again with other places that like charging more than $6 a mediocre-sized sandwich, for a buck or two more, you get a whole 20" sub which will last you 2 meals. Finally, the pasta is doled out by the weight of what you want instead of a pre-sized tubs that many lunch places have switched to. This is a welcome option as it can satisfy you no matter your appetite. In short, Al Capone's has become my go-to for lunch when I eat downtown.

Fantastic value crowded at lunch
A old world place that makes it's own sub rolls and pizza dough, fine traditional pizza, it's a fantastic value place. Fine dining? no. Great value food yes!!! Sub veggies run from ripe black olives that taste like olives, to jalapenos. A great place for a value meal downtown. A twenty inch sub can make two huge tasty lunches. It's clean, it never smells of spoilage or disinfectant. A Boston Classic. Could use better AC upstairs but this is a value place, not a soulless franchise. Enjoy it!

Fabulous food in the rough
I have eaten here many times and have favorites like the stir-fried beef dish - unreal; the 20" Italian sub - best in New England. I brought my kids down to Boston from NH and they loved the pizza so much they are continually asking to go to Al's! This is a busy atmosphere place and real busy for lunch...but better subs and pizza is hard to find for the money.

Fair food at a great price
I ordered the chicken parm and it was great. Another time I ordered the turkey and it was fair. They give a lot of food at a great price $7.50 to $8.00 but it depends what you order. The steak was great. The pizza not so great.
